Nice to see the Morse code in the spectrum, you can see the points and dashes.

Finally CubeBUG-1 data decoded

It was a joint effort of Radio Amateurs, PolySat and the CubeBUG team that finally resulted in the decoding of the faint AX25 signals that are transmitted by CubeBUG-1.

CubeBUG-1 Faint AX25

PolySat had recorded a audio file that could be decoded by DK3WN with the use of MixW. The settings used with MixW where standard VHF 1200 baud modem.

Aeneas Telemetry April 24

Aeneas Model24-04-2013 14:31, 16:12 and 18:00 UTC

I know it is already a couple of days old but it was still parked on my desktop and now it was time to decode these telemetry data from Aeneas. The data is decoded with the jar file from USC University of Southern California.

RAW AX25 data:

16:31:25 KE6YFA-1/TELEM>CQ>UI,?,F0 (1199 baud):
4341455255531D00400200030F0B0214130007050000001000F07500007F1C0049401BF6416E6B
16:31:45 KE6YFA-1/TELEM>CQ>UI,?,F0 (1199 baud):

16:32:05 KE6YFA-1/TELEM>CQ>UI,?,F0 (1199 baud):

Decode the data with the following java program:

java -jar BeaconDecoder.jar input-file.txt

Then the output looks like this:

AENEAS Beacon Data Decoder, Rev 1.1

CubeBUG-1 faint audio

27-04-2013 18:55 UTC

The first pass was 8 minute with max 5 degree elevation. Signals where stronger when using LHCP. Signal strength 10db above noise. Not possible to decode the AX25 1200 data. Frequency used: 437.438400 MHz FM

27-04-2013 20:29 UTC

The second pass was 12 minute with max 30 degree elevation. Signals where stronger then the one from 18:55 max 20db above noise. You can even see and hear some audio tones but unable to decode.

Lower in frequency then was communicated a carrier with very weak audio that sounded like AX25 1200 baud. But there are signals that seem to be transmitted from CubeBUG-1.

A job well done by the CubeBUG team, congratulations.

Later that evening I listened for CubeBUG-1 and recorded an IQ file. This file can be downloaded at the following location: download. This file is recorded with SDRSharp in 16bit PCM baseband format.
